Pressha, Tollefson, Hydef & Chris Tower at Substation
Jun 23 all-day
Pressha, Tollefson, Hydef & Chris Tower at Substation @ Substation | Seattle | Washington | United States

We’re throwing a Patronus Party! Come out to Substation in Ballard for an awesome night of music, dancing, and champagne! Costumes encouraged – unleash your inner magical animal! Not sure what your Patronus is? Here’s an easy quiz to find out. Why Patronus and not Spirit Animal? Spirit Animal is a culturally appropriated term which bastardized an important and significant Native American spiritual practice into white girls calling Lindsay Lohan their spirit animal as she crashes her car drunk with coke all over her nose. Patronus is the non-offensive Harry Potter originated word that is the animal that forms at the end of your wand to protect against dementors.

Who are we? For the past nine years, a Seattle-based group of friends have been traveling to Burning Man, spreading the love of Burning Man upon return, and growing larger with each burn. In 2016, Champagne Campaign was first officially placed as a registered theme camp. The universal activity enjoyed by this group of friends is meeting at 12:00 in front of the temple every sunrise for a champagne toast to the new day. This group of friends has continued the sunrise tradition at home in Seattle, and plans sunrise champagne events during the summer. At Burning Man, Champagne Campaign is an interactive camp that hosts daily debates in a campaign-esque setting. Our champagne bar is open during debate hours to encourage lively debates paired with champagne party punch. We encourage lively debates where people are free to give their opinion no matter the absurdity and engage themselves among burners of all different backgrounds and opinions. Champagne Campaign returns to Burning Man in 2017 in that hopes that it will continue to be an interactive inclusive theme camp for years to come on playa as well as in Seattle. All proceeds go to getting our camp to the playa and stocking our bar so we can gift the joy of champagne all week long!

Troller with Raica & Kate at LoFi
Jun 23 all-day
Troller with Raica & Kate at LoFi @ Lo-Fi | Seattle | Washington | United States

False Prophet and The Crocodile are pleased to bring you:

Troller [Holodeck Records / Austin, TX]: Troller formed in 2010 out of Austin’s dense electronic and experimental scene and played a key role in the founding of Holodeck Records. The trio’s synthesizer and drum machine half-time rhythms impeccably complement bassist and vocalist Amber Goers’ heavy riffing and charismatically tortured voice. From the onset, Troller‘s compelling live performances immediately distinguished them as a promising up-and-coming project yet to reach its peak. After touring extensively and selling out of multiple pressings of LPs, CDs and cassettes of the self titled LP, Troller wholly poured themselves into studio sessions for the second LP Graphic, crafting a professional and fully realized final piece.

RAICA [Further Records / SEA]: The cavernous and beautiful project of renowned DJ and Further Records headmaster Chloe Harris, Raica walks a fine musical line between lucid animation and blurred darkness

DJ Kate [False Prophet / (SEA]: Kate has been a performer in the Capitol Hill neighborhood for over a decade and has been a DJ/promoter for three years. She got her start spinning odd nights at Pony until she met Sharlese and the two became residents with their minimal wave and synth focused monthly dance party, Audiodrome. They soon moved to Kremwerk to found False Prophet, a monthly conceived out of a desire to galvanize Seattle’s synth community and bring exciting underground acts to town. Kate is a collector of everything from coldwave to darkwave, new wave to no-wave, industrial to post-punk and from disco to soul. She is passionate about sharing sounds from all over the world with anyone who would listen and will often work multiple genres into her sets. She produces another monthly with DJ Mike Steve at Chop Suey called Too Many Creeps, a 70s-90s underground dance party.

Tycho with Todd Terje and more at Marymoor Park
Jun 27 @ 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm
Tycho with Todd Terje and more at Marymoor Park @ Marymoor Park, | Redmond | Washington | United States

Marymoor Park Concerts and KEXP present TYCHO with Todd Terje & The Olsens and Jaga Jazzist

An epoch is defined as an extended period of time typically characterized by a distinctive development or by a memorable series of events, and Scott Hansen, leader of the band Tycho, has named their new album Epoch (Ghostly International) with that in mind. The last installment in a trilogy, Epoch is the culmination of more than a decade’s work that has seen the band evolving and maturing through two sublime releases Dive (2011) and Awake (2014), and developing from featuring Hansen as a delicate solo performer into the iconic frontman of a powerful multi-layered live band performing on the world’s largest stages. Epoch was arranged alongside Zac Brown, a long time collaborator and partner in the Tycho project. Brown contributed bass and guitar parts to the songwriting process, while Rory O’Connor played drums. Hansen sees Epoch as a multi-dimensional artistic vision at the confluence of his graphic design work via ISO50 and music with Tycho.

Ramiro (open to close) at Nightjar
Jul 1 all-day
Ramiro (open to close) at Nightjar @ Nightjar | Seattle | Washington | United States

Think about the last time you went out and heard something (or someone) new. When you were entranced, surprised, intrigued, delighted by what was coming out of the speakers. When you ditched the crowd at the bar and found a new one on the dancefloor. When you forgot what time it was, what year it was, when you stayed out later than you thought you would because you couldn’t bear to miss the next record, or the next few. The best DJs live and breathe music all day long, but you only get to hear them for an hour at a time. It’s time to change that. At Epic, it’s all headline. Every month, talented locals and visiting guests will take over the whole Re-Bar, for the whole night, so you can hear what they’re all about. Not just what they can find the time to play in a one-hour slot, but what they’d play for you and your friends in their living room. Not just the hits, but the inspiration behind them. Open to close sets are a true test of any DJ and a challenge that most live for. They are a chance for the DJ to immerse the dance floor in the groove, shift the focus across the full experience and tell a complete story.

Hunt & Gather presents an open to close DJ Set from Ramiro: “Ramiro is an inextinguishable accelerant of Seattle’s house scene” (Seattle Weekly), producing & performing at over 700 events in the Northwest over the past two decades, featuring top-tier local, national, and international talent. Through his DJ sets, Ramiro aims to raise the vibrational frequencies on the dance floor to inspire connection & celebrate the beauty of life’s every moment. Ramiro gets lots of love from the community, having performed almost every weekend over the past 20 years – at club nights, underground warehouse parties, festivals, outdoor and boat parties. A seasoned veteran behind the decks, Ramiro’s affinity & ability to connect with the dance floor is widely evident during his sets & enjoyed by thousands of dancers year after year.

Atish/UNITING SOULS on the Monkey Loft Rooftop @ Monkey Loft | Seattle | Washington | United States

UNITING SOULS presents JULY 4 BBQ & ROOFTOP PARTY! 2 rooms of music @ the Monkey Loft

ATISH (Manjumasi, SF): The Atish experience: deep, emotive, ecstatic. It is more than the beautiful sounds emanating from the speakers, though, it is also the man behind the decks: warm, compassionate, inviting. In an age of oversized DJ egos there is still an artist who is devoted to connecting with his audience, a humble soul with a pure passion for music. This is Atish. Atish occupies a rare space in dance music. At a time when most DJs rise to prominence primarily through their work as producers, Atish’s success has been realized through his total devotion to the art of DJing. His success comes as no surprise to anyone who has seen Atish DJ live or listened to one of his mixes. With a combination of sophistication and accessibility, his sets are expressive journeys in melodic deep house that create lasting emotional experiences for the listener. Atish is also a natural performer, engaging the crowd with a mixture of charisma and charm. He’s been known to don costumes and wigs when he spins, a playfulness that balances the strict discipline and obsessiveness he has for DJing.

Atish’s natural talent and passion for music haven’t gone unnoticed. Lee Burridge asked Atish to play on the legendary Robot Heart bus at Burning Man in 2011 and was invited back the next 3 years. Atish’s flexibility as a DJ landed him residencies where he regularly playing the mega-stages of The Cityfox Experience, the Burning Man-inspired Desert Hearts festival, and the intimate vibes of Behrouz’s Miami club, Do Not Sit on the Furniture. Outside the DJ booth, Atish has his own party series called Late Night Tonite. Beyond a typical club night, the talk show-inspired party features an interview between Atish and his guest artist early in the night giving them an opportunity to explore artistry through conversation. Outside the club, Atish will launch his own label imprint, Manjumasi Music in early 2016 with longtime friend and musical collaborator, Mark Slee. Atish has also developed a strong online presence through Soundcloud. A prolific mixer, Atish produces a monthly podcast series that has allowed him to express a deeper, moodier sound. Scrolling through his extensive catalog of mixes, one can hear an artist passionate about music and dedicated to the perfection of his craft. Having achieved so much in such a short amount of time, the dance music community is excited to see how far he can go.

Kid Hops, Alex & Sharlese/SHAMELESS on the Monkey Loft Fooftop @ Monkey Loft | Seattle | Washington | United States

Deck’d Out #1 We’re back again on that beautiful Monkey Loft rooftop for Thursday night sunset sessions starting July 6th. And we’re thrilled to kick off the summer season with a KEXP Expansion DJ takeover! Expansions began in late 1995 as the brainchild of Riz Rollins as a response to the burgeoning acid jazz scene that was enjoying popularity in local clubs, but underexposed on the local airwaves. Even at its inception it has always been important that the show not be commanded by any monolithic style or single host, but has always enjoyed multiple hosts who bring a variety of influences and style to the final mix. An Expansions mix will include old and new releases in its mix in a variety of genres. An Expansions mix can included techno, trip-hop, chill, ambient, drum and bass, house, dub, electronica, jazz, sometimes world music, sometimes rock, sometimes….well sometimes even the most disparate elements come together thanks to the expert curator efforts of its current hosts Kid Hops, Masa, Riz, Sharlese and Alex.

DJs:
KEXP Expansion Showcase featuring:
Kid Hops
Alex Ruder
Sharlese

Golden Gardens with Jupe Jupe, Mercury’s Antennae & TERABYTE

Aubrey Bramble + Gregg Neville are Golden Gardens, a mystical Seattle duo up from the nocturnal underground, making music for ghosts and other shadowy spectres.

“Seattle’s premier goth-gaze-techno outfit… The trio seemed to have been beamed in from a European metropolis circa 1989, blurring elements of Durutti Column, Cranes, and ’90s German techno from the Tresor label.” – Dave Segal, The Stranger

“A welcome mixture of mystery and magic—some sort of love child of Phantogram and Purity Ring—and it results in an audio sensation that’s equal parts beautiful and heartbreaking. ” – Seattle Weekly

DJ Shadow at the Neptune @ The Neptune | Seattle | Washington | United States

DJ Shadow: The Mountain Will Fall 2017 Tour

Josh “DJ Shadow” Davis had already been experimenting with making beats and breaks on a four-track recorder while he was in high school in the Nor-Cal college town of Davis, but it was during university that he co-founded his own Solesides label as an outlet for his original tracks. Hooking up with Davis’ few b-boys (including eventual Solesides artists Blackalicious and Lyrics Born) through the college radio station, Shadow began releasing the Hip-Hop Reconstruction mix tapes in 1991, eventually catching the attention of The Source magazine and Dave Funkenklein. Shadow was featured in the magazine’s “Unsigned Hype” column in 1991, and Klein signed him to a production deal with Hollywood BASIC records. Concurrently, Shadow provided beats and scratches for Bay Area rapper Paris and was featured on his second album. In 1993, Shadow pressed his 17-minute beat-head symphony “Entropy.” His tracks spread widely through the DJ-strong hip-hop underground, eventually reaching James Lavelle of Mo’ Wax.

Indecent Noise at the Underground @ The Underground | Seattle | Washington | United States

Seattle Trance Alliance presents The Sounds Of Trance, featuring

Indecent Noise – Mental Asylum: Indecent Noise is a producer and engineer hailing from Warsaw in Poland. His sound is completely rapt in energetic and melodic trance sounds which can often use techier sounds to deliver devastating impact. Playing live Indecent Noise fully uses the benefits of technology by using laptop and midi controllers with Ableton Live making his sets special and unique. His fascination of electronic music started at a very young age and at age 7 he was already listening to compilations from Jan Michelle Jarre and Kraftwerk. It was in 2004 he decided to learn how to become a producer himself. We fast forward to the present day and Indecent Noise has now become one of the most consistent and hardest working producers and remixers in today’s modern trance world. His skill and ability level have improved enormously since the early days and while most of his most recent work can be found on his own label, his music has also featured on labels such as “Armada”, “Future Sound of Egypt”, “Discover”, “Fraction”, “Spinnin” and “Subculture” to name a few.

Nina Las Vegas with Roska at Q @ Q Nightclub | Seattle | Washington | United States

Q Nightclub presents Forms featuring

NINA LAS VEGAS: Nina Agzarian has been working in Australian radio for more than a decade. After being forced into music tuition by her parents, at age 18, Nina relocated to Sydney, where she entered the world of radio production. After producing mixtapes, podcasts and radio specials, she was eventually coerced into becoming a DJ. For the past 7 years Nina has emerged as one of Australia’s premiere DJs.

ROSKA: Working across UK funky, house and various, mutated strains of bass-heavy club music, Roska has earmarked himself as one of the UK’s most accomplished underground exponents. Through a series of releases via influential dance labels like Numbers, Tectonic and Hotflush, as well as two albums for Rinse Recordings in 2012, he originally blazed a trail for funky to return to the clubs. He has continued to push the sound firmly into the future too, albeit now punctuated by his wider influences, via his own, genre-blurring Roska Kicks & Snares (RKS) imprint. Presiding over 50 releases, RKS has welcomed the likes of MA1, Champion, Gemmy and Doc Daneeka to the label since its inception in 2009 and now functions around a core base of new artists; Tony Tokyo, J Kenzo’s Jodo Kast project, Majora, Transcode and Frederique.

Damian Lazarus at Q
Aug 17 all-day
Damian Lazarus at Q @ Q Nightclub | Seattle | Washington | United States

Q Nightclub presents Studio 4/4: From House to Progressive to Tech to Deep to Disco, this night is all about 4/4 dance music as interpreted and presented by members of Lost Boys, Decibel, Flammable, Inner Flight and Trashed. Every Thursday night at Q.

DAMIAN LAZARUS: Since the moment he spun his first record, Damian Lazarus’s mission has been a clear and urgent one: to blow away the mediocre, the over-inflated, the obsolete; to seek out and celebrate the energetic, the important, the new. Always rebelling, always going places. Driven by an almost childlike curiosity, a vivid imagination and wicked sense of humor, he’s used his role as a DJ, label owner and now musician to nurture and share the most exciting and experimental music on the planet. Drawn to the darkness, but buoyed by the light, ever ready to embrace new ideas and different perspectives on music and the dancefloor, Lazarus is always ahead of the curve, with a wry smile on his face and a neat trick up his sleeve, How many DJs do you know who’ve played ‘Reviewing The Situation (from the Oliver! soundtrack, no less) half-speed to a jubilant crowd at DC10 in Ibiza. How many DJs do you know who’ve received a sitting ovation on the dancefloor?

RL Grime is a distinct voice in a sea of monotony. He has found a way to conquer the electronic space without compromising his identity, and therefor evokes an unrelenting independence in a world where independence is the utmost rarity. His live show has been celebrated as “an unparalleled force” and has graced the biggest festival stages across the world (Coachella – LA, Lollapalooza – Buenos Aires, STORM – Shanghai etc) With only 1 album out, over 100 million plays on his songs, rave reviews and magazine covers, he has quickly become the darling of the dance world. And at 25 years old, with his next LP on the way, he is on the verge of becoming a household name.
