Before the club, there was the street. Before the drop, there was the break. Nighthawk returns once more. Above, the room opens again with restraint and build. Deep house set with intention, advancing by degrees -gradually warmer, more charged, more corporeal as the hours lengthen. By afterhours, the chamber stands fully heated -euphoric and unguarded, wielded by practiced hands.
Below, we follow last month’s disco excursion toward its natural evolution: The arrival of the breakbeat. Disco rap. The grooves that carried sound out of the cabaret and onto the block. The warm sound of vinyl. Speakers in Bronx courtyards. Dancers claiming pavement. Hiphop in its earliest form, laying the architecture for decades to come. Special guest Breakbeat Lou presides, a man who was there, who helped press the foundations himself. Amen.
