Update: the 2020 event has been pushed back to 2021 due to COVID19:

We’ll See You in 2021: The safety of our patrons takes precedence during this unique time, but we are so excited to come together in 2021. -Borealis Team, Terry Morgan, Executive Director

BOREALIS, a projection mapping event, will return to Seattle this October 2020! We attended the inaugural Borealis in 2018 and were blown away.

While the Borealis event is not specifically related to electronic dance music, many of the submissions will be accompanied by an electronic music soundtrack. Additionally, many EDM events now incorporate Projection Mapping technology. If you’ve attended events produced by Waves, you’ve experienced Projection Mapping on a smaller scale. Take it to the next level by experiencing it projected onto a huge building as a background!

BOREALIS 2020 is planning to celebrate the rebirth of our community and stimulate economic support for the arts, restaurants, hotels, and local businesses. As we know, these weeks of isolation are filled with concern for those who are most vulnerable, hurting many economically, separating us from friends & family, and reducing our joy in life. We are engaging public and local corporations who share our vision to help rebuild togetherness, providing the Seattle community a free, outdoor event that will inspire & stimulate the imagination of all ages.

Join us in building an exciting, beautiful light art festival that includes projection mapping on MOHAI, light art exhibits throughout the South Lake Union neighborhood, music, food, and more. Dates will be announced in early Summer 2020 depending on how the world news (re: COVID-19) progresses. Together, let’s build a light at the end of this tunnel. -Borealis Team

What is Projection Mapping? Projection mapping is a projection technique used to turn objects, most often the facades of buildings, into a display surface for video projection content. Often the videos projected will augment the surfaces of the building by playing with its architecture and creating a unique interactive illusion effect.

Attendees are encouraged to create and wear their own light-art outfits and join in on celebrating the beauty of light as a wearable artform.

We will update this post with dates and links as they are announced. Hang in there, #WeGotThisSeattle ♥
