Event Review & Recap – Winterland 2011 – Darude & Ronski Speed

I had a great time experiencing Darude and Ronski Speed at Winterland 2011 by StarDust Productions last Saturday night at the Last Supper Club in Seattle. As soon as I walked in the door I could tell that it was going to be a high energy show. The snowflake decorations were beautiful, and the lasers accentuated the sparkly winter decor for the event. The crowd was very energetic with a great balance of dancers and drinkers having a good time. The amount of people was perfect, it was pleasantly packed with lots of dancing trance fans, but with plenty of room to move around, get up close to the performers, and also grab a drink without a long wait.

Ronski Speed opened with some good, solid trance, and definitely got me into the trance mood by dropping Above & Beyond and Cosmic Gate among his originals.  Next up was Darude, who really impressed me. Darude played a good 1-1/2 hour long set, building up the beats and whipping the crowd into a trance frenzy seamlessly, then dropped some Arty before closing the night with his legendary hit Sandstorm – to which he refreshingly added some new tempos and beats.

My only complaint was that the sound quality was not the best, especially at the back of the room. When I went up to the front the sound was improved, but I really would have enjoyed some more power for the hard trance beats. Overall, a great night with amazing music, a wonderful high energy crowd, and an amazing evening.
