Today’s featured music is a a collaboration by Mayten and vocalist Ella Joy titled Movements. Mayten, or Krists, is a Latvian artist, producer and DJ based in Seattle, making unique, listenable electronic music. Mayten’s music is inspired by both downtempo and dance music, trying to find the balance between experimental and driving, emotional yet breezy. Mayten currently hosts a monthly live radio show “Tectonic Electronic” on Seattle’s local Hollow Earth Radio 104.9 FM, focusing on experimental downtempo electronic music (stream past episodes here).

Seattle’s indie electronic label Big Slide Records is proud to debut their second compilation. RECESS VOL. 2, much like the first compilation, capitalizes on the warm and colorful characteristics of summertime as well as plays up the nostalgia elements of dreamy summer memories. The compilation features hip-hop, alternative R&B, downtempo house, lo-fi, and pop bounce.

Movements started out as a long, experimental and ambient track, driven by the main motif from my Prophet Rev2. It’s my first production featuring vocals, and is a relaxing but danceable, experimental electronic track. Ella and I collaborated halfway around the world, without ever meeting, with Ella writing and recording vocals in the UK, and me then heavily rearranging the track in Seattle to fit around the vocals, in what turned out to be an ethereal yet dancy experimental tune. It’s my first release featuring vocals and I absolutely love the sound. I’m honored and delighted for it to be part of this compilation! -Mayten
